About Leg entanglements, attacking

Leg entanglements are the positions where you trap one of their legs with your own, such as ashi garami, the saddle (inside sankaku) and 50/50. From here come the straight ankle lock, heel hooks, kneebars and toe holds. Some of these are banned for beginners in competition, so check the rules for your belt.

Control comes first: trap the knee line and stop them freeing their knee before you go for the finish. Always apply leg locks slowly in training. Your partner's knee doesn't warn you before it goes.
